Through political and cultural changes that began decades ago, Montreal has had two rapidly developing music spheres that rarely collide with one another. Numerous anglophone artists such as Grimes and Mac DeMarco flock to Montreal to find success, which contrasts with Quebec’s homegrown francophone artists. This panel will feature industry professionals from both music scenes who are ready to offer their takes on whether we can expect collaboration and cooperation anytime soon.

After moving to Montreal in 2009 to pursue her career in the fashion industry, Audrey Canuel spends a few years as a freelance worker before joining Eli Bissonnette’s management team at Dare To Care Records in 2013. Representing both locally and internationally known artists such as Cœur de pirate and Les sœurs Boulay, her work alongside Bissonnette has notably been rewarded with three consecutive nominations for best management team at the annual Gala de l’ADISQ.
Montreal indie label, Indica Records was built on strong relationships amongst its family of brilliant artists, and partners around the world. They are known for their strong DIY and artist friendly ethic. Co-founder, A&R and Manager, Kyria Kilakos has been leading the company for over 15 years and has been involved in some of the most notable indie success stories including Half Moon Run, Phantogram, The Franklin Electric, Valaire, Elliot Maginot, to name a few. Indica’s mandate is to produce and promote talent in Canada and abroad, the company has grown to include artist management, touring, publishing and a recording studio. Most recently Indica expanded their operations to Australia managing the careers of Hollow Coves and Hein Cooper.
Mischa Karam has worked in various positions in the music industry including concert promotion, tour production, management and grants. Opak Media’s roster includes artists such as Basia Bulat, Patrick Watson, The Barr Brothers, and Cold Specks.
Music enthusiast with a bachelor degree in Marketing, Hervé have been working in the music industry for the past 5 years. Currently working for Bedlam music mgmt (City & Colour, The Sheepdogs), he oversees the career of Pierre Kwenders, The Posterz, Mark Clennon, Kae Sun and is one of the founders of Montreal collective/label Moonshine.
